Telecom Systems Engineer-4G RAN


Provide 24/7 on-call support and technical reviews to customers. Provide in-depth technical log analysis, check network configuration, and support customer as needed. Attend to issues and escalations from the TAC, PA, Tier-3, RAN Commissioning and RF teams. Utilize the wireless network evaluation 3GPP (Rel9 & beyond) standard to help understand the network and isolate issues. Identify network issues proactively. Analyze and escalate issues as required to Tier-3. Utilize knowledge of lab/customer networks for troubleshooting performance issues. Provide regular updates to TAC, stakeholders, and customers via Remedy ticketing system. Perform verification and analysis of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on live networks with market-level ownership to improve performance. Support Field Integration Test (FIT) trials for new features to be deployed market-wide after approval from customer. Utilize knowledge of RF engineering design and RF parameters to help with RFJ optimization in the customer network. Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on market performance issues concerning throughput, accessibility, sustainability, handovers (Intra/X2/S1), and capacity & coverage. Develop tools and scripts to automate tasks on OSS and eNBs. Troubleshoot issues on OSS and OAM traffic flow between OSS and eNBs. Perform software upgrade support with regard to OSS and/or eNB to customer. Perform data audit, SW/FW audit of eNBs and health check of OSS proactively. Collect logs and perform log analysis for discussions with Tier-3 and HQ on various issues. Interact with Tier-2 team members and coordinate work based on impending issues and severity. Share knowledge and assist fellow team members in Tier-2. Utilize experience with: wireless networks, architecture, standards, and protocols, UMTS/LTE network, eNB and OMC/EMS, call processing of wireless networks, troubleshooting performance issues in lab/commercial networks, with various RF antenna technologies, and with network optimizations. Utilize knowledge of 3GPP LTE architecture, wireless network concepts especially in RAN domain, LTE Fundamentals, call flows, RACH, Intra-LTE/IRAT HO, eCSFB, SON, MIMO, Link Adaptation, Timing Advance, Cell Selection/Reselection. Collect and analyze logs using tools like Tcpdumb, Wireshark, XCAL/XCAP, QXDM/QCAT. Utilize knowledge of protocols like RRC, RLC, PDCP, IP, TCP/UDP, S1-AP, X2-AP, GTP, SNMP. Use network measurements tools like Iperf/Jperf and NetPerSec. Use UNIX/LINUX operating systems. Understand and develop scripts using Shell, Perl or other scripting languages. Utilize knowledge of multi-vendor OSS. Commission, upgrade and downgrade eNB/Node B/BTS.


Requires a Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, or Computer Science, or equivalent, and five years progressively responsible experience in the job offered or five years progressively responsible experience in wireless networks architecture, standards, and protocols; call processing of wireless networks; troubleshooting performance issues in lab/commercial networks; RF antenna technologies; network optimizations; 3GPP LTE architecture; wireless network concept RAN domain; LTE Fundamentals; call flows; RACH; Intra-LTE/IRAT HO; eCSFB; SON; MIMO; Link Adaptation; Timing Advance; Cell Selection/Reselection; collecting and analyzing logs using Tcpdumb, Wireshark, XCAL/XCAP, QXDM/QCAT; in protocols RRC, RLC, PDCP, IP, TCP/UDP, S1-AP, X2-AP, GTP, SNMP; using network measurement tools Iperf/Jperf, NetPerSec; UNIX/LINUX operating systems; developing scripts using Shell, Perl or other scripting languages; multi-vendor OSS; and commissioning, upgrading and downgrading eNB/Node B/BTS.


Or, in lieu of a Bachelor's degree and five years of experience, will accept a Master's degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, or Computer Science, or equivalent, and three years of experience in the job offered or three years of experience in wireless networks architecture, standards, and protocols; call processing of wireless networks; troubleshooting performance issues in lab/commercial networks; RF antenna technologies; network optimizations; 3GPP LTE architecture; wireless network concept RAN domain; LTE Fundamentals; call flows; RACH; Intra-LTE/IRAT HO; eCSFB; SON; MIMO; Link Adaptation; Timing Advance; Cell Selection/Reselection; collecting and analyzing logs using Tcpdumb, Wireshark, XCAL/XCAP, QXDM/QCAT; in protocols RRC, RLC, PDCP, IP, TCP/UDP, S1-AP, X2-AP, GTP, SNMP; using network measurement tools Iperf/Jperf, NetPerSec; UNIX/LINUX operating systems; developing scripts using Shell, Perl or other scripting languages; multi-vendor OSS; and commissioning, upgrading and downgrading eNB/Node B/BTS.
